Neck Pain

Neck pain usually comes from posture, desk work, an old injury or a pinched nerve, and physical therapy is a first-line way to ease it and keep it from coming back. Logos Physical Therapy treats stiff necks, tech neck, whiplash and neck pain radiating down the arm in Perth Amboy and Somerville, New Jersey.

Why your neck hurts

The neck carries the head all day, so small habits add up.

Posture and desk work

Tech neck or text neck, from hours looking down at a phone or screen, loads the muscles at the back of the neck.

Whiplash

A sudden snap of the head, in a car accident or a fall, can strain the muscles and joints of the neck. Claims and billing after a crash are on auto accident care.

Arthritis and a pinched nerve

Wear in the neck joints can narrow the space for a nerve (cervical radiculopathy), sending neck pain radiating down the arm.

A crick in the neck

A stiff neck after sleeping badly is common and usually eases with gentle movement and the right exercises.

Hands-on care for the neck

Your therapist uses manual therapy and cervical mobilization to restore movement, and prescribes exercise that strengthens the deep muscles at the front of the neck. We also look at neck and shoulder pain together, because the two share muscles; see shoulder pain.

Ergonomics matter too. We go through how your desk, chair and screen are set up and what to change.

Some patients come in worried about a pinched nerve in neck, and others about pain that runs into the shoulder. We test the neck, the shoulder and the nerves to see which it is.

  • Neck pain after a fall or crash
  • Dizziness or vision changes when you move your neck
  • Arm weakness that is getting worse

If any red flag applies, get medical care first.
