Knee Pain
Knee pain is usually a tracking, tendon, cartilage or ligament problem, and strengthening the hips and legs often takes the load off the joint. Logos Physical Therapy treats runner’s knee, meniscus tears, ligament sprains and knee arthritis in Perth Amboy and Somerville, New Jersey.
Common causes of knee pain
Knee pain going up stairs and knee pain when squatting point to different problems.
Runner’s knee
Patellofemoral pain syndrome aches around or behind the kneecap, especially on stairs and with squatting.
Meniscus tears
A meniscus tear can cause catching, swelling and pain with twisting.
Ligament sprains and ACL tears
A sprained knee or an ACL tear leaves the joint unsteady; strength and neuromuscular training restore control.
Tendon pain and knee arthritis
Patellar tendinitis (jumper’s knee) and IT band syndrome overload the tendon or band, and knee arthritis responds to steady strengthening.
Treatment for the knee
We start by watching how you walk, squat and climb, and testing the strength of your hips, thighs and ankles. Your plan uses therapeutic exercise, manual therapy, neuromuscular training and taping, and for runners a running gait analysis.
Hip pain often travels with knee pain; see hip pain. Foot and ankle problems are on foot and ankle pain, and sports injuries on sports injury rehab. After an ACL reconstruction or knee replacement, see post-surgical rehab. You can come to Logos with a physician’s referral or ask for care directly.
